Fundamentals – Thru Pass, Back Pass Circuit
Set Up: There are six players set up on the small field, starting at the cones.
Procedure: Player A begins the drill with a thru pass to Player B, and he follows the play to receive a back pass from him. From there, the play moves from Player A > C > B. Player B passes across to Player D, and play continues back and thru around the grid. The players rotate counter-clockwise during the drill, and a second ball can be added along with an additional player.
Teaching Topics:
1 The back pass.
2 Passing.
3 Communication.
Progressions:
1 Quick two touch passing at each cone.
Coaching Points:
1 A poor back pass in the will probably lead to a poor thru pass.
2 All passes should be played to the feet of the receiver and not into space.
3 Make verbal and visual contact on each pass. Check your target before passing.
